RAY MIELBRECHT scored the FIRST 24-HAND ($5) and THE CHICKEN. EDITH PAYNE held a 6-7-8-A-A, the RAGGEDY JULIA, which was worth $80! HARLEY MIEDEMA ended the day with THE CHICKEN after taking it away for Jim Ranstrom, who had taken it away from Ray. Nobody held a CRIB FLUSH, so next week's DIRECTOR'S AWARD will be worth $10. KATHARINE GOLDING was working her way towards a string of pearls, but newcomer CORBY CHRISTENSEN broke her string in game 7. RAY MIELBRECHT robbed JIM RANSTROM of a GRAND SLAM in game 4. Then Jim robbed STEVE WENNSTROM of his own GRAND SLAM in game 5. JULIA BICK was left in the stink hole in her first game (against me), and left her opponent (Harley Miedema) in the stink hole in her last game. That last win earned her GRASS ROOTS POINTS! KURT LYSEN is not easily discouraged. He got skunked in his first and second game, then went on to win 4 of his matches today. Many thanks to EDITH PAYNE (and her husband) for donating a box of playing cards to the club! MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW! The National Grass Roots Tournament in Puyallup is scheduled for April 25th. We will be carpooling again, so let me know if you plan to join us for that all-day event. Remember...you can earn Grass Roots Points at the Regional and National Grass Roots Tournaments! (CLICK HERE for a registration form) And if April 25th doesn't work for you, there are at least three other similar events happening in the area in the next two months. Check out the UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS page for details.
