September 23rd Results: Harley William Miedema (aka Chicken Man) held the FIRST 24-HAND JULIA BICK held a 4-4-5-6-10 and cleaned out the DIRECTOR'S AWARD DANIEL HAAG ended the day holding THE CHICKEN Richard Franklin Moore has entered the race for Bronze, earning his first-ever Grass Roots points! The new DIRECTOR'S AWARD will be a 23-hand. In other cribbage news: Starting on Oct. 10th I will be headed to Chehalis each week to attend Ras Rasmussen's weekly cribbage class. This is an amazing opportunity to enhance your cribbage knowledge. It will last 8-9 weeks. If you would like to join me, just let me know. I'll likely catch the 4:05 ferry, returning on the 8:30 (or 9:30) ferry. Grass Roots Regional Tournaments are starting up. This is an 18-game format and is another opportunity to earn additional Grass Roots points. Nov. 5th in Chehalis and Nov. 12th in Puyallup. I need to check and see if this is any kind of club record, but CINDY GRENVILLE got skunked FIVE TIMES today! Way to go Cindy! Albert Decaro held the FIRST 24-HAND Mike Sudduth held a 6-7-8-A-A and claimed the Raggedy Julia Albert Decaro held a 6-7-8-2-2 and claimed the Raggedy Andy Kim Lazare ended the day holding THE CHICKEN Congratulations to Meri Shepard for earning her first Grass Roots points! As a group, we decided to put the remaining money from last year's unclaimed Director's Award aside and hold it for the next 28-hand or 29-hand held. For those headed to The Fair on Thursday, we're planning on catching the 8:00 boat, make a stop at Starbucks for some treats, then have a little breakfast in Puyallup before starting our day at The Fair. Steve reported "Daniel was the big winner, one game shy of a grand slam, and because we had ten players his payout was $40. Stephanie also walked away with her pockets full; first and last chicken plus third place and one of the Raggedy hands. A good time was had by all" Steve also mentioned his appreciation of everyone's help in cleaning up afterwards. My thanks to Steve for running things in my absence and also for arranging to play at the Sportsman's Club. Next Saturday we will return to the Vashon Eagles. See you then! ALERT! Next Saturday, Sept. 9th, the cribbage tournament will be at the Sportsman's Club off Cemetery Road.

I hope we left a good impression on them and will see them again soon! We also have a new club member...Meri Sheperd...who joined today. I've been playing Meri on the water taxi over the years, and I'm glad to have her join our Saturday group! We also welcomed back Al DeCaro. He skipped a year, but rejoined as a member today. We also acknowledged STEVE WENNSTROM as our club champion for the 2016-2017 season. Steve earned the most GRASS ROOTS POINTS last year. CINDY GRENVILLE was recognized for her PERFECT ATTENDANCE last year. DANIEL HAAG also had PERFECT ATTENDANCE last year, and was also our club champion in earning the most Game Points during last year. And finally, we celebrated STEVE WENNSTROM and CINDY GRENVILLE both reaching BRONZE last year!
