First off, I want to say WELCOME to the two guests that joined us today, Jennifer Huerta
and Michael DeBlasi.
Both seemed to enjoy themselves, and Michael even managed to go home with some cash
in his pocket by finishing in 2nd place! CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL!
What a difference a week can make! Remember last week's results and poor
Ruth Adams pitiful showing? Well this week she redeemed herself
and took TOP honors! When you're hot...you're HOT!
(Ruth has actually become quite a student of the game. Ask her what her secret is!)
Julia Bick was the first player to grab the CHICKEN, which gave her the FIRST 24-HAND prize.
At some point in the day Roy Bumgarner grabbed the CHICKEN and managed to hang
onto it for the remainder of the day to take the LAST 24-HAND prize!
CONGRATULATIONS to both Julia and Roy!
Now I haven't mentioned the fine name tags that Roy Bumgarner made for the club.
He not only laser engraved name tags, but he also made name blocks that sit on the
table. Very nice indeed!
And to show their gratitute, can you believe that three of Roy's opponents SKUNKED him?
Ouch! Now that's gratitude for you! Anyhow, THANK YOU ROY!
By the way, Roy is now the newest member to officially join our club.
WELCOME Roy! As I've said before, Roy is a nice addition to our group!
Finally, we need to do something to wake ol' Steve Wennstrom up!
Steve came in LAST PLACE today, with only 2 wins.
In looking over your scorecard Steve, I've decided that you DID
earn the coveted WORST SCORECARD AWARD!
(See me next week and I'll pay you your $5 prize.)
I think Steve's still dreaming about bear hunting in Alaska
or maybe hiking the woods in Glacier National Park?
His mind certainly wasn't on cribbage today!
See y'all next week!
p.s. if you want to be removed from this distribution list, just let me know.
Our very own club matriarch, Arlyn Teed, almost pulled off a GRAND SLAM (no losses)
today and finished the day in FIRST PLACE! Go Arlyn!!
Karen Keil was the only player able to win against Arlyn today!
Karen finished in THIRD PLACE today!! Way to go Karen!
LAST PLACE went to Harley Miedema, and that earned him the WORST SCORE CARD prize!
The CHICKEN found its way into Ray Mielbrecht's hands early on when he scored the first 24-HAND. The CHICKEN roosted there for the remainder for the day, so Ray earned both FIRST and LAST 24-HAND prizes!
Ray played Cindy Grenville for their final game of the day.
Ray beat Cindy and robbed Cindy of the 2 points she needed to meet the 12-point threshold
to earn Grass Roots points. Bummer!
And poor RUTH ADAMS got beat up pretty badly today with not one...but TWO SKUNKS!
Ouch! Better luck next week Ruth!
My thanks to Harley for coming early to set up.
Thanks also to Ray for picking up Arlyn today.
And thanks to Jim for the tasty ginger snaps!
I also want to say WELCOME to Roy Bumgarner. Roy played in his first official Grass Roots tournament today. Roy seems to fit in well with our group! Don't you agree?
I never did get to play Roy today. It seems that I screwed up the rotation royally today,
and it was a real struggle getting everyone matched up properly.
My apologies to the group for that blunder!
I hope to see y'all next week!
CONGRATULATIONS to Arlyn Teen who took SECOND PLACE today!!
Arlyn quietly worked the cards and ended the day with SIX wins!
We welcomed our friend Steve Wennstrom back from his Alaskan adventures.
Although he ended the day a ways down on the list,
it's important to note that all of his losses were UNDER 10 POINTS!
Cindy Grenville took the bottom spot on this list, but she did manage to
claim the first 24-hand and also received the WORST SCORECARD prize of $5!
So her day wasn't a total loss.
See y'all next Saturday!
Here is LAST WEEK'S results, since some of you
apparently never received it.
We kicked off the new cribbage season by honoring JIM RANSTROM.
Jim was last year's club champion.
Jim is not only a fine cribbage player,
he is also a great helping hand to the club in general.
Welcome back and CONGRATULATIONS to KAREN KEIL.
Karen took FIRST PLACE today!
She was also the only person to earn GrassRoots points (13) today.
Please note that an error was discovered on a scoresheet,
which changed the final outcome of today's tournament.
(see final standing below)
Harley actually came in SECOND PLACE, followed by Ray in THIRD PLACE!
CONGRATULATIONS to both of them!
(I will square up the prize payouts with you two the next time you come.)
See y'all next week!
