Had to darn near tackle that KATHARINE GOLDING to the ground and hogtie her to get her to stay while we rounded up an even dozen today, but we somehow managed it! I hope we didn't rough you up too badly? We also welcomed a first-time visitor, MIKE MARSH, to the cribbage table today. He didn't finish in the money, but he did finish in 4th place, which ain't too shabby, considering this was his first cribbage tournament! We hope you'll be back again soon Mike! ROBIN KING was the first to score a 24-hand, grabbing THE CHICKEN (and $5.) But she wasn't able to hang onto it for long. As I recall, STEVE WENNSTROM took it away from her, but his hopes of keeping it were dashed when THE CHICKEN flapped its wings over to HARLEY MIEDEMA (aka CHICKEN MAN) when he scored the final 24-hand of the day. Harley also earned more Grass Roots Points today when he finished in THIRD PLACE with 14 Game Points! The DIRECTOR'S AWARD went unclaimed today, so if you score the first 23 hand next week, it will be worth $10 to you. The RAGGEDY JULIA also went unclaimed. We added an additional $11 to that pot today, bringing the starting total next week up to $37. JULIA BICK had a strong SECOND PLACE finish today. Julia had a slight lead on me when she and I played against each other in our 9th and final game, but her cards went cold and I left her still standing behind the skunk line when I went out. (Before you go feeling too sorry for poor Julia, take a look at the 2nd Quarter and Year-to-Date stats!) Way to go Julia! We will be playing next SATURDAY at the Vashon Eagles. Same start time: 1:00 p.m. I hope to see you then!

We started the day with ELEVEN players turning out for today's tournament, but that darned ROBIN KING slipped past us before we could hogtie her to the table, so only TEN players were present for today's tournament. That elusive DIRECTOR'S AWARD ($20) was claimed today when CINDY GRENVILLE got the turn-up she needed for the 2-4-6-8-10 hand. HARLEY MIEDEMA was the first to get a 24-hand, so he grabbed THE CHICKEN (and $5), only to lose it to KURT LYSEN. Ruth wrestled THE CHICKEN away from Kurt, but he managed to wrestle it back from her and kept ahold of it for the remainder of the day. Nobody held a 6-7-8-A-A, so the Raggedy Julia starts out with $26 next week. It took SEVEN wins today, and TWO skunks, to make FIRST PLACE today, which was accomplished by KATHARINE GOLDING. HARLEY MIEDEMA also won seven games (but he didn't skunk any of us) and that secured him SECOND PLACE. JULIA BICK continues her winning streak and finished in THIRD PLACE today. Be sure to check out the current standings for the SECOND QUARTER! We've only played three tournaments so far, but it won't be easy to overtake the top three on the list! Our THANKS to CINDY GRENVILLE and the Vashon Community Care Center for hosting our group for the past two weeks! Next week we return to the VASHON EAGLES. Same time: 1:00 P.M. THANKS also to Cindy for the yummy Christmas cookies she shared with us today! HAPPY HOLIDAYS to ALL of you!! Mike Oh...I forgot to mention....a couple players have a conflict on January 9th. To accommodate them, I'd like to propose that we play on Sunday, January 10th instead. But if anyone has a conflict on that date, we will just go ahead and play on our regularly scheduled day. So please let me know if that Sunday won't work for you! Email me at [email protected] or call me at (206) 930-1379 The Vashon Community Care Center was kind enough to host us today so that Arlyn could play cribbage with us. It took SIX WINS and a SKUNK to get into the money today (and even that wasn't enough in at least one case.) We had FOUR players that finished the day with SIX WINS and a SKUNK, each earning 13 Grass Roots Points. I'd have to say that ROBIN KING made the difference in today's results, even though she wasn't in that group mentioned above. Robin actually missed her Grass Roots Points by just one point. She got SKUNKED....royally (by a spread of 67 points, a new CLUB RECORD)...by that rascal JIM RAMSTROM, and those spread points pushed Jim into FIRST PLACE. SECOND PLACE went to JULIA BICK! THIRD PLACE was decided by spread points. HARLEY MIEDEMA aced RAY MIELBRECHT out by a difference of FIVE (5) spread points. Again, Robin King was the spoiler in this case. Robin had skunked poor Ray by 41 points, which dragged Ray's total spread points down below Harley's. CINDY GRENVILLE scored the one and ONLY 24-hand, so she went home with the money for both FIRST 24-HAND and THE CHICKEN pot! Nobody held a 2-4-6-8-10, so the DIRECTOR'S AWARD climbs to $20 next week! And nobody held a 6-7-8-A-A, so the RAGGEDY JULIA starts out next week with $17. Sometimes don't you wish you were nobody? Next week we will return to the Community Care Center. Same start time: 1:00 o'clock. A total of 12 players were entered for this December 12, 2009 tournament p.s. I received a nice note from our newest club member Chris Starr. Right after Chris joined the club he got a job which conflicts with our Saturday tournaments. But he indicated that he will still be able to join us from time to time. After recognizing various accomplishments of the FIRST QUARTER, we jumped right into the first tournament of the SECOND QUARTER. The most fun for me was watching the feathers fly as THE CHICKEN got passed around and around. JULIA BICK scored the FIRST 24-HAND (and $5), and it took FIVE 24-hands before it made its final approach into ROY BUMGARNER's hands. Nobody scored a 2-4-6-8-10, so the DIRECTOR'S AWARD will be worth $20 next week! And nobody scored a 6-7-8-A-A, so the RAGGEDY JULIA pot will start out with $8 next next week. As you can see below, KATHARINE GOLDING played some serious cribbage today. She even skunked two of her opponents, winning a total of SIX games and ended the day in FIRST PLACE! Skunks made all the difference today. STEVE WENNSTROM also won SIX games, but he could only skunk one opponent. But that was good enough for taking SECOND PLACE! DEREK SMITH won his match in game 3 against Steve, but he missing skunking Steve by a mere 4 spread points, and that made the difference in the day, leaving him in THIRD PLACE. Julia Bick finished in 4th place today. Her most noteworthy game was game 2 against Derek. That rascal Derek left poor Julia in the stink hole, robbing her of...at the very least....3rd place. Better luck next time Julia! Next week we're temporarily moving up to the Vashon Community Care Center to play so that our cribbage buddy Arlyn Teed can play with us. If you need directions or a ride, just let me know. Same time: One O'Clock! We're not sure where exactly we will be playing, so just come to the main entrance and we will direct you from there. Hope to see you then! |
