Jim not only came in FIRST PLACE today, but he finished the Grass Roots season in FIRST PLACE!!
CONGRATULATIONS JIM!! CONGRATULATIONS are also in order for STEVE WENNSTROM! Steve finished the season in SECOND PLACE!! BEST ATTENDANCE AWARDS go to Jim and Arlyn! And YES, attendance matters! Despite her .407 Win/Loss percentage, Arlyn still finished the year in FOURTH PLACE!! CONGRATULATIONS on your successful year Arlyn!! It's always a pleasure to spend an afternoon playing cribbage with you! I am still planning to do some kind of youth cribbage program this summer. If you're interested in participating, come to the Eagles at noon next Saturday and we'll do some planning and try to set some dates. And don't forget, we'll still be playing cribbage every Saturday, at 1 pm at the Eagles over the summer. Same game format, but you just won't earn Grass Roots points. (The next official Grass Roots cribbage tournament season begins in September.) Finally, my THANKS to ALL OF YOU for making this a successful year! Your help with giving rides to others, or bringing food, or help with setting up, or just the one-on-one interactions we had playing cribbage, made it a pleasre to be your club director!! Sincerely, Mike Jim not only came in FIRST PLACE today, but he finished the Grass Roots season in FIRST PLACE!! CONGRATULATIONS JIM!! CONGRATULATIONS are also in order for STEVE WENNSTROM! Jim Ranstrom once again got the $5 First 24-Hand prize, Karen Keil got a $5 "Worst Game Card" prize, and Steve Wennstrom got THE CHICKEN and hung onto it to the bitter end and took that $10 prize! Steve secured 2nd Place today, and it was exciting to see Arlyn Teed earn 12 Grass Roots points!! Next Saturday will be our final Grass Roots tournament of the season, which runs from September thru May. We will continue to play each week over the summer, but it won't count towards Grass Roots points or prizes. (Same $8 entry and same cash payouts.) Since next week will be our final tournament of the season, I hope you'll plan to join us and show your support for this club, especially if you haven't played with us in a while! It has been a very successful year for our club, and I'm hoping we can add even more members next year! Next weekend I am expecting a VERY exciting showdown between Steve and JIm! You won't want to miss it!! JOIN THE FUN! Mike Attached are the current standings for this cribbage season through today and below are today's tournament results. These are your last two opportunities to add to your game point standings! I have attached a spreadsheet with the current standings through last weekend. Tomorrow...score the FIRST 24-hand and receive a $5 prize. If you score a 24-hand and get your hands on THE CHICKEN, then hang onto it until the end of the day, you'll pick up a $10 prize. (Be sure to ask Ray how he did this last weekend!!) We'll also throw in a $5 prize for the first Raggedy Ann and a $5 prize for the first CRIB FLUSH! JOIN THE FUN!! Mike Jim Ranstrom recently took, and passed, the ACC judges test.
CONGRATULATIONS JIM!! Jim only missed one (1) question, but he is curious about the "correct" answer: From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Judges Questionnaire Date: Sun, 11 May 2008 10:22:25 -0700 Question 21 was; “A player mistakenly pegs from 1st street to 4th street and releases the peg. Upon discovery, the peg on 4th street is placed behind the peg on 1st street. The player loses the count of the current score and also the previous score. The answer I gave was 8.9 but it was corrected to 8.5.a.1. I am having a problem with the logic here, and you said you wanted to post it someplace for a reading. Jim Ranstrom Here's the rule Jim cited: Rule 8.9. Recording Score in Wrong Track If a player records an otherwise correct score but places the peg in the wrong track on his or her side of the board or in opponent’s track, it shall be moved to the proper track without penalty. Here's the rule referenced as being the "correct" answer: Rule 8.5. Improperly Removing Pegs a. If a player removes only his or her front peg when a score is not yet pegged, then:
Seems a bit puzzling to me as well. Can any of you help us out with the logic? Mike My diabolical scheme worked perfectly today.
I used the Eagles annual fashion show to distract Steve and Jim, I finished in first place, and the two of them never knew what hit them! Ok. Maybe that wasn't what really happened today, but I can honestly say that Jim had a MAJOR meltdown today, getting skunked THREE TIMES, but he still holds onto FIRST PLACE in our seasonal standings (attached). Hang in there Jim!! The SKUNK action today was quite something to behold! Steve skunked Jim...not once...but TWICE! And Julia got her own skunk on Jim in between Steve's two! Karen skunked Steve...(and later she skunked Arlyn!) And Karen almost skunked Steve a second time! It was a good thing we weren't playing horseshoes! I couldn't stand by and watch all the fun, so I joined in and skunked Karen! CONGRATULATIONS to Karen for taking SECOND PLACE today! A good time was had by all, and next week promises to be equally fun! Since I won both first and last 24-hand pots, so I'm going to DOUBLE those two pots next week! If it's Saturday at 1...it's CRIBBAGE at the Eagles! JOIN THE FUN! Mike Another FUN day around the cribbage table today at the Eagles!
We missed several of our 'regulars'...Karen, Julia, and Cindy... But we were joined by one of our 'irregulars'...Jay Williamson! Jay was undefeated thru game 5, lost the next two games by a total of 7 spreadpoints, and then won his final two games to secure FIRST PLACE! Way to go Jay!! Jay also won a $5 pot when he picked up a 22-hand (three 5s and a pair of face cards)! THREE players were in contention for 2nd place...Harley, Ray, and Steve, but Steve managed to outpeg the other two players to take SECOND PLACE! And that was despite getting skunked by Jay! Jim was the first to score a 24-hand and he grabbed the CHICKEN fairly early to earn a five-spot, but midway through the day Harley CROWED when he got a 24-hand, took the CHICKEN from Jim, and he refused to give it up to anyone else... and went home with that $10 prize! (Thanks again to Jim for contributing an extra $5 to this week's CHICKEN POT!) Aryln and I are still scratching our heads wondering where all the good cards were today, but we both went home with smiles on our face after enjoying a FUN afternoon of CRIBBAGE! Current club standings through today's tournament are attached. Only FOUR (4) weeks remain in the 2007-2008 season! If it's Saturday at 1...it's CRIBBAGE at the Eagles! JOIN THE FUN! Mike |
