Well, despite my beating JIM RANSTROM by 8 points in our second game of the day, I was unable to keep him out of the winner's circle. Jim finished in FIRST PLACE. Jim and I both won 6 games, but Jim skunked an opponent (poor Katharine) and ended up with 13 games points...one more than I scored...so I finished in SECOND PLACE. Now ROBIN KING also won 6 games today, but Katharine...apparently angered by Jim's skunking...skunked Robin by 45 points...and that dropped Robin's net spread points enough to fall short of my total by a mere 7 spread points. So Robin earned her Grass Roots Points too, but finished in THIRD PLACE. Now don't go feeling sorry for the ol' gal. Robin scored the 1st 24-HAND of the day and grabbed THE CHICKEN (and $5). She also ended the day holding THE CHICKEN, which was worth $10 today. We were all glad that she didn't have to leave to keep the number of players even. (And I'm sure she was especially glad!) We had the pleasure of EDITH PAYNE's presence today. We are very lucky to have someone like Edith willing to step in at a moment's notice to even out the number of players! THANKS EDITH! JULIA BICK scored a Raggedy Ann (6-7-8-A-A) and claimed the RAGGEDY JULIA pot worth $11 today. Nobody scored a 2-4-6-8-10 to claim the DIRECTOR'S AWARD, so that pot will be worth $10 next week. Derek Smith chose this as our specialty hand. THANKS to everyone for bringing so many goodies. We have plenty on hand for now, so you can hold off bringing any more for a couple of weeks. Next week is the 12th and final week of the 1st quarter of play. It's a very tight race. Speaking of next week, Arlyn Teed needs a ride to cribbage. If you can help out, let me know.
