DAVE McCOY breaks 10 game losing streak and skunks Mike Sudduth! RAY MIELBRECHT cleans out DIRECTOR'S AWARD with a 9-10-J-Q-K Hearts Flush. HARLEY MIEDEMA scores the one and only 24-HAND of the day. The $6 in the RAGGEDY JULIA pot will roll over to September and the start of our 2010-2011 Cribbage Season. Please join us over the summer and help teach kids the great game of CRIBBAGE. Bring a grandchild, a nephew or niece, or the neighbor kid. Or maybe bring a friend who doesn't think he/she is "good enough" to play tournament cribbage. It all starts next Saturday, June 5th, at the Vashon Eagles! We were honored today with a visit by cribbage legend RAS RASMUSSEN of Chehalis, WA. Ras left behind bragging rights to Harley Miedema, Ray Mielbrecht, Rick Westerman, Dave McCoy, and myself. Cindy lost to Ras by a measley 4 points. Ras was joined by two other off-island players, JEFF OLSON of Puyallup and RICK WESTERMAN of Wenatchee.. Rick, of course, is no stranger to our club. He makes a pilgrimage to Vashon about once a year. Also joining us from off-island was JIM ROSEVEARE of Colorado. Jim has made our club his second home, and he is always welcome! We had FOURTEEN players at the cribbage table today. Before the tournament started, we first handed out awards for THIRD QUARTER and Year End. For the record, in UNOFFICIAL PLAY: Ray Mielbrecht scored the FIRST 24-HAND. Jim Roseveare ended the day holding THE CHICKEN. Yours truly scored a 6-7-8-A-A and took the RAGGEDY JULIA pot. Nobody could muster up a five-card flush run, so the DIRECTOR'S AWARD will be worth $20 next week. Ruth Adams got to clean out the SKUNK POT, but Steve Wennstrom, Jeff Olson, and I all fought for it right down to our final game! And true to form, our off-island guests went home with most of the prize money: We do hope you'll join us again real soon! (See the PHOTOS page for more pics from today) Man alive did HARLEY MIEDEMA finish the year with a BANG! THREE WEEKS IN A ROW FINISHING IN FIRST PLACE! WOW! The other notable event today was KURT LYSEN's PERFECT ATTENDANCE! Not just for the 3rd Quarter, but for the ENTIRE YEAR! Way to go Kurt! Thanks for being such a dependable player! For the record: JULIA BICK scored the FIRST 24-HAND and also ended the day holding THE CHICKEN Nobody scored a 5-CARD FLUSH RUN, so the DIRECTOR'S AWARD will be worth $15 next week. And nobody held a 6-7-8-A-A, so the RAGGEDY JULIA will start out with $6 next week. And of all the weeks for me to earn the SKUNK POT, there wasn't much of a pot to win today. This concludes the "OFFICIAL" 2009-2010 Grass Roots Cribbage Season, but we'll be back next week for another fun afternoon of "UNofficial" cribbage! It was such a nice day outside, I don't blame those who didn't make it to today's tournament. Today we had the pleasure of two guest players, WENDY-JO WESTON and ALBERT DeCARO. For the record: Cindy Grenville scored the FIRST 24-HAND Julia Bick scored (appropriately enough) the RAGGEDY JULIA Robin King scored THE CHICKEN in the final game of the day. and guest Al DeCaro took home the SKUNK POT Nobody scored the DIRECTOR'S AWARD (5 card flush run, hand or crib) After 35 cribbage tournaments (that's 315 games) only TWO GAME POINTS separate the players in 1st and 2nd place and only FIVE GAME POINTS separate the players in 2nd and 3rd place! NEXT WEEK: Our FINAL "official" tournament of the 2009-2010 cribbage season! For the record: HARLEY MIEDEMA held a 6-7-8-A-A and took the RAGGEDY JULIA pot today. Your's truly grabbed the DIRECTOR'S AWARD with a FOUR OF A KIND. RUTH ADAMS held the one and ONLY 24-Hand, so she got both the FIRST 24-HAND and THE CHICKEN. And JULIA BICK got to take the SKUNK POT home with her today. TWO WEEKS are remaining in "official" Grass Roots tournament play! And the club leader, JULIA BICK, is just SEVEN (7) game points ahead of the pack! |
